Raybearer definitely exceeded all the expectations I have for YA literature, especially when it comes to uniqueness and depth. Both the magic system and the world were detailed and vividly present in every aspect of the book without feeling overwhelming or confusing. The plot was fresh and had nice twists, and the storytelling flowed smoothly throughout the novel.

Alongside the worldbuilding, I was most amazed by the characters. Tarisai is one of the best protagonists’ I’ve ever read, and she may just be my favorite female MC of all times. She’s intelligent, strong-willed and overall a very likable character with meaningful background and development. Similarly, the villains/antagonists were realistic and complex. I just wish the author had spent a little more time on some of the relationships and side characters, as I didn't learn to care for (or keep track of) all of them.
