Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maritza Moulite, Maika Moulite

4.0

As a Haitian-American, I genuinely enjoyed this book. Not only did it make me want to delve deeper into learning more about Haiti's history, I loved that Creole was sprinkled throughout the novel. Although I speak the language, I was never taught to read or write so it was fun to sound out the words and realize that's the way they were spelt. I was able to relate to the characters in the story on so many different levels, and I think that was the first time I really felt represented in a story. Super cool to experience and such a fun read!
