The Inmate by Freida McFadden
4.0

“Sometimes people do exactly what you think they’re going to do, and they still manage to disappoint you.”

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was my first Freida McFadden experience. I listened to this book as an audiobook while I was at work, and I must say… it did not disappoint! I’ve heard so many good things about Freida McFadden as an author, and after listening to this, I cannot wait to read the two books by her, which I received for my birthday (The Crash and The Coworker).

This story had me questioning myself for who was responsible for the murders 10 years ago, and doubting myself when I thought I’d had it all figured out, only to have had it completely wrong all along! It was very cleverly written and thought up and kept me on my toes the whole time! So many twists and turns!

It’s A story about Brooke, who returns home after 10 years with her son Josh, to move into her parent’s old house. She starts her new job as a nurse practitioner at maximum security prison, where her ex boyfriend is held for the murders committed to her friends 10 years ago (and her attempted murder) - who is also the father of her son, although he doesn’t know this. I love how Frieda has interweaved the new interactions with Shame (the baby daddy, ex boyfriend), with the past events that led to his conviction. I love that she rekindled with her best friend Tim all those years later too. I’d highly recommend this book.
