Pines
by Blake Crouch
Pines jumped around in how I wanted to rate. I love the puzzle box elements and the eery "Stepford Wives" or "Body Snatcher" elements to the town. The mob scene was particularly effective. But this was always going to be book that lived or died on the strength of its ending, and I was pleasantly happy with it. Though I know there are sequels, this book actually felt relatively well contained. Ethan is kind of boring but he's neutral enough to have the story around him take center stage.
