Story Thieves by James Riley

3.0

I will admit: I was bored in the middle of this book. But Mr. Riley, you pulled through. Just like in the Half Upon a Time series, he pulls twists out of his hat, revealing deeper meanings to everything. And then it gets GOOD. It wasn't my favorite, because I expected something different, but I still may read the rest of this series. Although, it did end on a nice note.
Let's start with the characters. Owen is awesome, and he is a genuinely nice person. I'd like to be friends with him. Kiel is the same way, but he can get a little annoying...which is exactly what is meant to have happened. Bethany is relatable (at least to my A-type personality), and you can see her open up a little, which is nice. I do really want to see what happens with her in the future. And SHE CAN JUMP THROUGH BOOKS - how cool is that?! :D
The plot did get nice and deep, which was nice, except for me, who gets confused with too many details. ;) But it was awesome to have a great plot, especially considering some of the books I've read that fell flat. (cough cough GATHERING FROST cough cough; sorry, but I just didn't love it)
Overall, this was a read that slowly drew you in, diving you into a rich world filled with enjoyable characters and realistic emotions. Good start to a series.
