This seems to mostly be backstory/set up for what is to come in the series. In this first volume, we witness how Shoya’s bullying of Shoko begins and escalates, and how pretty much everyone else was at the very least complicit in what happened. Really sad and infuriating to read, but a powerful set up to what I hope will be an impactful story.

TW: bullying, ableism
