I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith

4.0

“There is only one page left to write on. I will fill it with words of only one syllable. I love. I have loved. I will love.”

17 yeah old Cassandra lives in a ruined Suffolk castle, with her poor yet eccentric family. She keeps a journal with hilarious yet poignant entries about her life. But one major life event occurs between the beginning and the end of these entries - Cassandra has fallen hopelessly in love.

This book was an absolute joy to read! The writing style flowed so nicely, as it’s written in the style of a journal, it felt so personal! It is a classic coming of age story and a tale of first love. It was so eccentric and I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing in some parts!
The descriptions of the castle are so perfect and enchanting, and the characters are so unique and perfect in their own ways! It portrayed family dynamics and relationships so well, and the story was written amazingly!!

The only reason I deducted a star is because I really didn’t care for the ending. I felt like the whole book was leading up to an amazing ending and I was a little bit let down! That is obviously personal preference, but I was just hoping for a little bit more!
