This was definitely not my favorite Ruth Ware book. I guessed the antagonist very quickly. There weren’t the usual jaw dropping twists I’ve come to expect. I also think it’s the most annoying trope to end with the recently widowed main character learning she’s pregnant at a hospital after some sort of serious injury. Marking this as spoilers even though it was heavily foreshadowed. Like bffr, Jack was septic, lost an organ, jumped out of a train, refused to treat an infected wound, isn’t sleeping or eating, has been beaten by a cop, and she’s managed to maintain the pregnancy? Nah. Jack was also lowkey dumb as a brick. Aside from the negatives, Ware’s writing style remains impeccable and the topic of the book seemed well researched.
