The book touches on teenage crushes and adjusting to life with a mostly absent mother who is off doing medical work war-torn countries.

It  touches a bit on working out one's identity throughout the teenage years.

Phoebe can sometimes be unforgiving  and whereas I somewhat enjoyed Phoebe's commentary on life, the story felt a bit  dragged. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed. There was also predictable  nature to the book,  that somewhat detracted from the overall story.
