Ask the Passengers
by A.S. King
GRR my computer crashed and removed my awesome review.
BUT BASICALLY, I really liked this book. I think it's really important for teenagers who are questioning their sexuality - for them to know that it's okay to still be figuring it out, that they don't have to necessarily label themselves until they're ready (or come out, until they're ready).
I DID have problems with it - namely, Dee pressuring Astrid and literally almost date raping her (this wasn't addressed very well at all). ALSO, everyone was such a bitch to Astrid?? Like her mum favouring Astrid's sister (who, by the way, was more concerned about her reputation as having a "gay sister" than she was concerned about said sister) and also her bitchy friend Kristina who just...UGH. She annoyed me towards the end. Plus there was a bit of an emotional distance for me, just with the writing style.
BUT OVERALL, I really really liked it, and the magical realism just added a really nice touch.
