In Every Generation by Kendare Blake

3.0

It was fun to be back in the Buffy-verse with a slayer of the new generation. It picks up in continuity with the end of the TV show, that the slayer power is unlocked for lots of women and girls and that the hellmouth in Sunnydale is ... boarded up.

But then there's an attack at SlayerPalooza (well, they call it slayerfest, but I think mine is better), and all of a sudden Willow's daughter (?! -- yeah, they explain that) seems to be manifesting powers. Well, new powers, because of course she's Willow's daughter.

Frankie (Mini-Red) accumulates her support staff, and starts patrolling, because guess what, vampires are moving in again and ruining the neighborhood.

There's a starter demon, two truly ancient demons, help from unexpected quarters, and a decent approximation of the banter from the original series. And yet. I'm glad someone is in this sandbox creating new stories. I have no idea what the timeline is on this story though -- it didn't feel like a whole school-year passed. It feels like it only took two weeks, which is not a lot of time from "brand new slayer" to "taking down an ancient evil." I suppose more will be revealed in the next book, which I may or may not read...
