My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
3.0
emotional sad slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

The legal court scenes were not particularly accurate or believably authentic, despite obvious research by the author to cite relevant cases and use legal jargon to support the scenes. However, Jodi Piccoult does a really good job of taking a controversial issue you probably have a gut-reaction belief about, and asking the reader to look at it from many different lens. The reader needs to question if their values they brought into the book are the ones they want to take moving forward. Jodi doesn't use a ham-fisted approach to tell you what to think or feel, but she does present compelling reasons why each character feels the way they do and holds their different perspectives. That's the main reason I like her books; I always think about ethics and morals that are often very challenging to discuss in real life. But they are important to consider nonetheless.
