Barefoot Gen, Volume 2 by Keiji Nakazawa

5.0

Things that stand the most from this book - how the living had to live a life of hell, right after the blast with all those burns and maggots and dying of radiation poisoning; children having to provide for themselves in a Lord of the Flies/ Jungle rule kind of a setup; how there is so sympathy for the victims or survivors from people of neighboring towns; soldiers who come in for relief dying of radiation poisoning (reminds one of the Chernobyl cleanup efforts and lives lost in that). This book is a terrible read, but much required to know what really transpired after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
