The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich

Definitely a great book, just a couple of hiccups along the way. The specifics of LIC were a little wishy-washy, at best. The ending was very rushed and there wasn't enough closure with all of the characters. Trevor's death felt really unnecessary and rushed, and the author left no time to grieve his loss. The end left me with a lot of questions, like what happened to the LIC and the handlers?
Does the whole world know about the program now? I wish we could've gotten more time at the end to explore how Dyl and Caden could be together. However, this book was complex and a pretty original idea. I'm not sure I've ever heard anything even close to the plot of this book (besides maybe a little bit in fanfic). This was a wild ride and I'm really glad that there are complex and interesting LGBTQIA+ stories being told that aren't boy+boy=gay. I enjoyed this for what it was, so I can ignore some of the glaring plot holes or issues. I felt for Caden and was completely heartbroken for him and with him when Dylan said he played him. The turn around after that was a little rushed, but I'm glad they ended up together living happy lives.
