If He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin
5.0

I don’t know where to start, if i’m being honest.

When i first picked up the book, and started reading, I was nervous about the writing style. It feels like reading a diary or journal entries. Short chapters, small sentences, and a lot of information. But the further i got into the book the more i not only started to enjoy the writing style, but understood the reasoning behind it.

Autumn and Finny with both forever hold a piece of my heart and this book will be a part of many for many years to come.

The characters are incredible. There were many moments that I wanted to grab the FMC and tell her she’s being dumb, but Autumn is a complex character and her choices were all for a purpose. I even found myself rooting for the side characters and their stories as well, which is not something I do a lot. The dynamics, the friend groups, the parents, there is so much detail, and yet it all fits.

The plot….
I don’t want to speak much on this because I went into this book blind, and I think that everyone else needs to too. But overall, the story was phenomenal. It stays mostly accurate to what teenagers today feel and do, I know from experience.

Please search of trigger warnings. This book does contain strong emotional contents. If you feel like it might be too much for you, please do not read it. You’re mental health is more important.
