This gave me emotional damage but I was asking for it and wanted more.
I agree with some other reviews and comments I've seen that this shouldn't be YA and that the author seems to be holding back. I also agree with those who say "we get it, everyone is the most beautiful teenager to ever teenage" - that aspect does feel tedious at times.
All of that taken into consideration, this still feels like a masterwork of moral greyness and revolting against the path that's been set. There is such a beautiful agony of the characters trying to avoid the mistakes of a past they can barely remember, while having no real way of knowing if their actions will change anything or just lead them inevitably toward repeating history.
I have a feeling this will stay with me for a long, long, long time. Truly beautiful writing.
