Midnight for Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo
5.0

It would probably be a 4 if this was my first time reading it but I have to do 5 for nostalgia purposes.

Charlie Bone is a regular kid who goes to school, hangs out with his best fiend and lives at home with his mom, grandmas and uncles. Very normal life until one day he gets a photo he had printed mixed up at the store and starts to hear the voices of people within it. From here, his grandma and aunts force him to attend Bloor’s academy for genius kids and those like Charlie who are endowed (meaning they are all Children of the Red King and have unique and special abilities). With an old battle starting to arise again, Charlie needs to work with his new friends to learn about an inventor, a miss child and many more mysteries that continue to arise at Bloor’s.

I actually read this series before getting into the Harry Potter books. I love the school setting and the type of magic that’s here. I love the individualistic nature of the different abilities of the children of the red king and I can’t wait to continue on with me reread. This is a good introduction to young reader on bullying, diversity, strong female roles and many more things.
