Not the best du Maurier I've read, but still very good. Got to be one of the most intriguing books I've read for a while. A good bit of speculative fiction with an ambiguous ending. Part science fiction without any science, part murder mystery where both victim and culprit are long since dead, and part ghost story with a living man doing all of the haunting. Just imagine taking a drug that thrusts you way back in time to subsequently appear in the middle of some 14th century drama and then becoming thorougly invested in the drama and thoroughly addicted to the drug...
