Book of Shadows by Cate Tiernan

3.0

After starting the series in highschool (for some reason I only made it to the 6th book), I am coming back to reread the early books and hopefully finish the entire series.

I have fallen for Cate Tiernan twice without realizing it. The first was Old Magic (which I desperately want to reread and hope will live up to my expectations). The second, of course, is Sweep.

That said - three star review for this one (tho I wish we could give 3.5 stars on GR). Some of the characterization is rather over the top (you may find it insufferable if bratty teenagers are a turnoff for you), and I don't always love Morgan. I can't recall if the rather karge cast of characters ever gets a little more nuance, but I hope they do. But it's not often that you find a book that incorporates actual wiccan practices in alongside the more fantastical elements, and that's what draws me to this book.

Regardless, this series has always felt like stepping into October for me, and that's my favorite feeling.
