Cleverly constructed and well-written, but overall I felt a bit ‘so what?’ The lives of a super-rich stock market player and his wife are told in four books, focusing on the 1920’s and 30’s,  each by a different author and in a different genre. Each completely convincing. Perhaps too convincing, - taken individually only the third has any pep to it, the main pleasure is in determining the ‘true’ account, whether or not there can be such a thing, and admiring the cleverness. There may be a suggestion that mathematics and music are all that can be trusted,, but even that is undermined, and one of the few true plot mysteries is left mainly unresolved - a fifth book might be interesting, an opportunity for fan fiction?
