Circe by Madeline Miller

4.0

4 stars.

This is the second time I read this book and i must say I enjoyed it way more.

This was a very slow paced story, with very flowery writing that can sometimes feel tiring to the reader.

I liked Circe. She isn’t a very like able protagonist for me, only because I found her to be a fool most of the times. She was a fool for the 2/3 of the book and then acted surprised when her son, who she raised to be wrapped in a cloud, acted foolish as well. That part of the book annoyed me a lot 😂 (as you can see)

I really like the last 1/3 of the book with Penelope and Telemachus and the threat of Athena over their heads. I enjoyed Telemachus a lot,I would say he was my favorite character of this whole novel. I also really liked the ending of this. Circe was one of the few gods that didn’t like and cherish their immortality and I was really happy for her to be able to live with Telemachus as a mortal.
I wasn’t the least surprised with Telegonus ending, he always wanted to escape the exile of this island and he finally did.

I would have liked to have seen more of Circes siblings, especially of Perses and Aetees.

This was a pretty enjoyable read, I’m excited to someday try The Song Of Achilles
