Another heart wrenching novel from Glasgow. I liked it, but I also hated it. Our MC, Bella, is a thoroughly modern girl with modern problems who is self-medicating with the one of the oldest “drugs” in human history. I hated how mean everyone is to her/“the addict”. I think it’s this callous, hyper-individualism that the creates social pressures that are the root cause of addiction. Where is the community? The social supports? Overall the MC is easy to resonate with, and I wanted the best for her throughout the story.
