Melt for You by J.T. Geissinger

3.0

I enjoyed this book. I'd actually give it 3.5 stars if I could. My main reasons to not give a higher rating is that I had too many moments of wanting clarity in the story and also a heroine that truly felt TSTL.

The constant negative self talk from the heroine became painfully grating to read. I understand it was a part of her character but...woof. I couldn't take much more and honestly didn't see what made the hero so interested in her. Under this same umbrella....what size IS she? I hesitate when the general term "fat" is used to describe someone. Her vision of herself compared to how others saw her clearly didn't match up. Also, fat can mean a lot of different things to different people. A skinny person might think fat means a size 10. A size 10 might think fat means a size 18. At no point did I really feel like it was clear what Joellen actually looked like. She was fat in comparison to her model family? It felt like a cop out.

Finally....yikes with her absolute ignorance, naivete, stupidity...honestly I don't know the right word to use for it. Her complete lack of self awareness coupled with her complete inability to contextualize other people's behavior? Again...made it hard to see what the hero saw in her sometimes.

Those flaws brought my overall enjoyment down but didn't keep me from still loving other aspects of the story. Regardless of having no clear explanation of her actual weight, I still appreciated having a heroine who was basically me. Mid to late 30's, presumably at least a size 12 or larger.

Cam as the hero was also a winner. Not getting his POV left him slightly opaque as a character, but his personality still mostly shown through.
