It was still hard to want without being wanted in return.

3.5 stars. A fun time. This author is really good at writing banter and close relationships that are sweet and fun and super easy to get into. This is pretty comfortable, almost casual friends to lovers, but also really intense. The kink didn't end up being a huge part of it; it was equally about the weirdness of falling for someone who's become your best friend, not knowing what lines to cross and when. I really loved Sasha and his quips, and how stubbornly proud he was of his Russian roots, and how much he refused to lose his accent. I liked Jason as well, though he did read kinda similarly to the protagonist in the other novella I've read from this author. The hilarious banter and character interaction make this stand out, even though the romance didn't wow me. Kudos.
