yeah... i did not love her. i was so excited about the older mc aspect of the novel, it felt fresh and slightly cozier. but ultimately whatever expectations i had for this to be possibly interesting to me were not quite met.

for me, this read as slightly discombobulated and lackluster in most of its supposedly "gripping" or "comedic" aspects. i could not bring myself to care about the franks nor could i feel much interest in the fate of any of the characters.

this had so much potential but unfortunately twas not for me :(

it's a shame though because i was hoping for chakraborty to be a new fantasy fav (i still have a copy of the first novel in her daveaband trilogy which has gone dreadfully unread and ignored)

it is quite highly rated on goodreads though so don't let my seemingly unpopular opinion completely dissuade you into reading it - maybe just let it dissuade you from making the impromptu decision to buy it in hardcover for thirty dollars when you
a. don't like buying books unless you
or
b. hate hardcovers

maybe that's just a me problem (it is)...
