Disappearance at Devil's Rock by Paul Tremblay

4.0

Not a review so much (there are plenty of those online about this book) but a quick comparison with another of Tremblay's novels, A Head Full of Ghosts. I enjoyed both books immensely and I also rated A Head Full of Ghosts as four out of five stars. In my opinion A Head Full of Ghosts is by far the better book and I struggled with how to rate Disappearance at Devil's Rock. My solution was not to compare them but judge each on its own merits. While they have some similarities in style, motif, and theme, they're both telling different tales. While Ghosts is the superior novel, the fact is that Disappearance is a spell-binding tale that kept me anxiously reading straight through until the (as usual with Tremblay) unsettling finale. I recommend it.
