This was such a frustrating read because it's so blah. There are glimpses into more fascinating stories, but Kerman doesn't reach far past her own story, which while an interesting touchpoint, isn't really enough to sustain a year and a half long narrative. She meets such interesting characters during her time in prison, and then they leave the story and we don't get to open up the world of this woman's prison any further.

Watch the series instead. It does a lot of what I wanted the book to do.
