Mercy Killing by Lisa Cutts

4.0

I was lucky enough to receive and advance copy of this book, having read her previous books I was expecting good things from Mercy Killing.

The story starts of with the death of a well know sex offender and of course the police must treat this like any other murder but things become even more complicated when it appears that this isn't just a one off killing.

I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive as I started reading as there were quite a few characters and I worried that this would somehow become confusing but I was completely wrong there, what it did was add to the element of mystery and really had me questioning just who had committed the crime.

Short chapters made for easy reading, allowing me to read the novel in short bursts when I had the time and the detail given on each character gave a real insight into just how police officers think and feel when they are both on and off duty. Lisa's experience as a detective herself really shines through here. I think you tend to forget that it isn't just the victims themselves that have to deal with an abundance of emotion!

Unlike her previous two novels, this book is a standalone but I'd implore you to read Lisa's previous works too. Mercy Killing is a great addition to the crime fiction genre, although fiction you could be forgiven in thinking that what you are reading is talking about a real life case. The 'whodunit' element certainly had me turning the pages.

The only reason I've marked it down by one star because for me I felt it ended rather abruptly, I'm a sucker for a good epilogue!
