Who Is Maud Dixon?
by Alexandra Andrews
// Who is Maud Dixon by @alexandra.andrews.writer
It blows my mind to know that this is Alexandra's debut novel. Thrillers are meant to be pacy, adrenaline filled portals that for a brief moment makes us forget where we are. We turn into investigators while trying to solve the murder/crime, end up thinking like a culprit while trying to escape an imaginary scene of crime. It awakens your brain, something that usually happens when you're trying to solve a puzzle. You try predicting the plot and mostly you may as well succeed in doing so but very rarely, you fail. Your assumptions turn out to be wrong. And that's when you know that you have a winner. Who is Maud Dixon is a clear winner.
Florence Darrow works as a assistant editor in NY but is bored to death working for others. She wants to publish her own novel but very well knows that her words aren't yet there. When she chances upon a job to be an assistant to the very mysterious author under the pseudonym Maud Dixon, she jumps at the opportunity. Florence is understandably thrilled to be working in such close quarters with Maud and is completely smitten and awed as she begins to understand this eccentric writer's personality. Given the chance to accompany her to Morocco for research, Florence is beyond thrilled to assist her but very quickly she realises that there's a lot more to Maud than what actually meets the eye. What happens in Morocco is a spectacular story that unravels quickly, with these two women being at the centre of it. The twists are as sharp as the roads of Morocco. There are certainly few instances where you can predict the plot but what sets this book apart is the conviction with which it has been written. There's hardly any loose ends.
Who is Maud Dixon is a dog eat dog thriller that keeps you at the edge of your seat. There's no hero in this story but only smart villains who know what they want and go after it ruthlessly. I definitely recommend it.
