LOVED THIS OMGGGGG. Angie Thomas has done it again. I know there are many people who read THUG and really loved Big Mav, but for me, although I found him to be a good character and father, he didn't stand out to me too much. But, complete 180 with this book. In this book, he's just Maverick, a 17 year just trying to do the right thing by his family and his kids. It's so crazy that Seven's a little baby in this one. Maverick has to find his place in his neighborhood and redefine what being a man is to him, especially with the gang culture in his neighborhood and his family. I really appreciated how they touched on grief, especially the grief of black men. Also, there are references in the book that are so connected to the black community to the point where it made me smile and feel so much more connected to the story. I loved reading about Maverick and his life, seeing how he developed right in front of my eyes. It was like watching a friend go through things and grow up and mature. That's exactly why I love this
