My brother has been prodding me to read this series for at least a year now, claiming this is his absolute favorite and I would definitely love it.
Brother, you were right. This is one of the best time loop books I have ever read.
Our MC Zorian is a fledgeling mage about to start his third year at the Ciorian academy. He is off to a rough start, being woken up the day he is supposed to travel back to school by his little sister jumping on him and his mother being her usual critical self. And he can’t even get to the bathroom in time since his brat of a sister locked herself in there to prank him!
Plus he is saddled with one of the worst mentors possible.
Even worse is when after a month of studying and hard work he gets violently killed in an enemy attack during an invasion and is now bound to repeat the whole month again.
During the whole first book Zorian keeps looping through the first month of school, trying to find answers and a way out and discovering terrible, world ending secrets along the way.
Good thing he has all the time in the world to find a solution to it all. Life is never easy for a young adult novel protagonist, is it?
I have to say, the character growth and writing just blew my mind. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys magic school settings and time loops. Zorian starts out as a bit of a whiny, selfish centered teen, but trust me when I say this, he has an amazing ark.
My only issue is that it ends with an insane cliffhanger. 😭 Even if several books are already out in a series, that always annoys me.
