Black Brother, Black Brother
by Jewell Parker Rhodes
Donte is tired of the subtle (and not-so subtle racism) he deals with at the private school he attends along with his brother Trey who is white-passing. When the Donte's suspended and arrested for something he didn't do he decides to take action against his biggest school bully by beating at his own game; fencing. But first Donte must learn the sport; so with the help of former Olympian Andre Jones, his brother, and the Boys and Girls club Donte learns to fence. As Donte gets closer to facing off with his school bully he begins to build his courage to fight against the corrupt system that arrested him.
I've been wanting to read this book for a while and I'm so glad I did. It combines a variety of elements into a flawless story. There's sports, racism, family and friends. A great recommendation for someone who likes sports books, realistic fiction, and book about someone overcoming a struggle.
