Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

This is easily one of the hottest books of summer, but with good reason! Personally, this wasn’t on my radar until I started seeing all the glowing reviews! Plus you have to admit that the cover is pretty dang fun, so my easily influenced self was sold!

This story follows the tumultuous relationship between Sam and Sadie, beginning in adolescence, through college, and into adulthood. It's more of a character driven story rather than plot, however there was definitely still a story to follow and it was one I found myself engaged in.

The video game background and concept was unique and though I am definitely not a gamer, this book made me have a new found appreciation for those involved and the work that goes into creating video games because you can see how it truly is more than just a game. I enjoyed seeing Sam and Sadie’s friendship evolve from playing video games in their early days, to uniting to create their own in adulthood.

Sam and Sadie’s relationship was always a mixture of true and honest friendship, along with jealousy, resentment, and more that made things very rocky at times. But I found it fascinating how they seemingly put their feelings and emotions into the video games they created to tell its own kind of story.

Aside from the two main characters, there are a few others who’s personalities really highlighted certain strengths and weaknesses among Sam and Sadie. Marx was probably my favorite character and honestly, we all need a Marx in our life to keep the balance of things in check.

I also did appreciate the discussion around chronic pain, particularly when it came to Sam and his history. I thought it added great characterization to him and also just brought up a whole topic within itself that doesn’t always get talked about.

Yes the core of this story is about video games and its culture. But it’s also so much more because it’s about success and failure and relationships and love. Plus the writing is just beautiful and sucked me in! If you're on the fence about this one, I say give it a go and you might just love it!
