The Push by Ashley Audrain

3.5

i liked it,, but i didn't.

the way the author tackles generational trauma and different facets of motherhood was done really well, in my opinion. i liked the discussion around feeling like having kids is the next step and kind of obligatory, the physical and emotional toll of being pregnant and giving birth, and the weight of not feeling a connection with your baby and motherhood. blythe's character was complex and real, but the husband fell flat, which was maybe the point.

for me, the ending left a lot to be desired and was unsatisfying, which was disappointing.
