Kudos by Rachel Cusk

4.0

Overall, I found reading Cusk’s trilogy rewarding and insightful. While each book takes on the same framework to have no plot in favor of conversations that read more like monologues, I find it so interesting how Cusk treats her protagonist, Faye, with little attention when these various conversations from people that she meets suck me in so much that I forget Faye is even there since she doesn’t really ever include herself in the conversation. Although, I’m sure a lot of conversations in real life go the same way—filling the air with words that will eventually make sense, at least to ourselves and how we talk about ourselves, or at least until someone else will chime in.
There’s a part I really enjoyed where someone in Kudos mentions the difference between an authors presentation in real life vs. an author as a writer of their own book, and how people see them as separate, and how the world sees readers.
