Sunburn

A sad love story.
It was such a struggle to finish this book. Not because it was terribly written so but because it just felt much too sad, painful and depressing that I had to take some time out from it. The lies, the pretenses, the cowardice, the regrets, the longing and the heartache. Especially the heartache.
It just felt too much. I feel too much. Even when I try not to. It was as if I was the one experiencing such pain and heartbreak even more so since I can relate to it.
It is a sad reminder for me of the women and girls all over the world living in oppressive and repressive patriarchal cultures and societies, too afraid and unable to express their true nature, feelings or to be who they want to be for the sake of familial and religious harmony with the sense of forced resignation; the beliefs systems, so ingrained within human psyche, which are manipulated and controlled by those with power and influence for their own personal agendas.
The ending was too short for my liking and as unsatisfying though it was, there was still a hint of a HEA though I would imagine it would be somewhat uncomfortable and awkward since they've not seen each other for years.
It is truly such a grand and remarkable book though I probably wouldn't read it again because the journey was too sad and painful.
