Scandal in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

3.0

Lisa Kleypas is the top of the heap of Romance writers. Hers are among the best I have ever read (nothing can compare to Suddenly You!!!!!!) so I suppose there had to come along a book of hers that while still good wasn't really great in my opinion. I think I have reread every book of hers except this one. This one won't get another look from me. I keep thinking about this book and why I didn't love it as much as I love her other books. Daisy is my least favorite of the Wallflowers. There was nothing exceptional about her. Perhaps that's because she is the little sister of Lillian, and no one can compare to Lillian. Lillian is the Mary Tyler Moore of heroines...spunk and independence for days. Even now Daisy is hard to describe because she just wasn't memorable. Short? Brown hair? Likes to read? That is really all I could tell you about Daisy. She was just a boring character. Now...Matthew had all of the makings of a hero but then we find out he's been living a lie. He has been pretending to be someone he is not and that was an unforgivable flaw in my book. Be a guy who worked his way up and who came from humble beginnings, but be honest and proud of that. Please don't be a liar. Nothing he could say could erase the lie. I was SO DISAPPOINTED when that came out!! He basically lied to everyone who knew (or thought they knew) and trusted him. That was the point of no return for me. After Devil in Winter I was hoping Daisy would be paired off w/ Rohan and was confused to see her was not the hero in Scandal in Spring. I think they two would have had a nice balance. I wish Ms. Kleypas could go back and change this book but here it is. I just wish I loved it more.
