Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen

It took me months to get through this—picking it up, putting it down—but I’m so glad I did. I bought this copy of this book for my dad, for what turned out to be his last birthday. When he was in the hospital in December 2017, he asked me to bring it to him, but I’m not sure he ever picked it up again. Finding his bookmark a few chapters in was rough. This isn’t the place for a long ramble about the Jersey Shore and Bruce and my dad... but all of those factors contribute to my appreciation of this memoir. It’s especially poignant that it ends at Manasquan Inlet, where I learned to drive, where I sat in a car making out with a boy, where I sat with my dad one time, trying to explain why I shouldn’t be in trouble for staying out all night. Leave it to Bruce.
