Talking Back, Talking Black: Truths about America's Lingua Franca by John McWhorter

funny informative inspiring fast-paced

5.0

Despite—or maybe because of—being an English major, I have never cried happy tears while reading a book on linguistics. Until now.

McWhorter explains the basics of Black English and how it is separate from Standard American English in a simple and fun way. This book is super informative and thought provoking. In addition to providing insight into Black English, it also made me have some epiphanies of my own language—or should I say languages-Finnish.

Highly recommend!
