I flew through this when I thought it was a thriller... And it was a thriller.
It reads like the TV series Spiral/ Les Engrenages. Strong angry woman, leading a precarious, dangerous investigation she's too personally involved in. She breaks rules. She dominates and is let down by those around her. The story twists and the whodunnit shifts to the left, then to the right. It's great. Addictive. And written in contemporary language with familiar settings, it didn't require constant dictionary checking.
But...
The ending is tacked on mess. A love story that is poorly advised, and weakens the cable character, taking for someone who is supposed to look after her. Suddenly she's weak, and he's strong. Or something. After he has been gaslighting her, and using his position as carer to get close. It's really not good.
