The Vanishing Season by Joanna Schaffhausen

dark mysterious tense fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

4.75

I am obsessed with this series and I feel like for almost every series, the first one hold a special spot in your heart and is always the best. you are meeting all these characters for the first time and figuring out where it'll go from here and it feels inherantly nostalgic to look back on book 1 after binge reading the entire series in 4 days (if you're me). I love reed and Ellery's dynamic and the way he cares about her just so immediately after radio silence for 14 years.
from the moment Brady was introduced as a character I was suspicious of him because I liked him so much he was a little artist who worked with animals and he was ellery's only friend of course you want to like him but when you're reading a book that you know is a murder mystery of course that's the person you're immediately suspicious of I just kept saying please don't be him and then well you know.
I think if I were to rank the series as a whole it would go 1,5,4,3,2 but not a single book in this series is less than 3.9 stars in my heart.
