I felt it was trying too hard, too pretentious, and trying too hard to be woke. Nothing wrong with that but the way it was written didn’t feel believable for the 90s. Sorry to say! It was also just such a depressing book. It might just be that I grew up in LA also and read this while experiencing the horrid LA fires - January 2025 but it was not the escape I needed right now.
