What Happened to Cass McBride?
by Gail Giles
Wealthy, attractive Cass McBride is world's coldest, most calculating 17-year old. Her father raised her to know exactly what she wants out of life and stop at nothing to get it. When some nobody in her History class has the nerve to ask her out on a date, she politely tells him she is busy, and then writes a scathing account of the encounter in a note to her friend. She leaves the note under her seat for her friend to find, but it is intercepted by the nobody, David, who hangs himself the next day.
The nobody's older brother, Kyle, knows what happened and is hell-bent on revenge. So he abducts Cass from her bedroom at night, drugs her, buries her alive in a box, and berates her via a two-way radio while the police try to find what happened to her. Cass, ever the saleslady, tries to employ her father's signature technique of finding Kyle's weakness and selling it back to him in an effort to get him to let her out of the box. Thus, David and Kyle and Cass's own saga unfolds.
