The Litigators
by John Grisham
More like 2 and a half stars. Enjoyable, but definitely not one of Grisham's best. Right from the start, this story had plausibility and likeability problems.
We would be happy to root for David, if we knew a little more about him, but his decision making in staying at Finley and Fogg just didn't make sense.
The outcome of the trial seemed preordained and the interesting elements of the story were wrapped up very quickly. I also found myself skipping large chunks if detailed testimony from the trial as it didn't add anything. Grisham talks about the jurors and even the lawyers sleeping through that part...so did this reader.
One other thing that stood out to me, which I don't remember noticing before in Grisham's books, was the sexism. Did we really need to hear about how "striking" the defendant's lawyer was every time she got up to speak? Or how shapely her bottom looked in her suit?
I am about to go on a Grisham binge, with two more books waiting for me, so I will see if this vein continues.
