A group of old friends ventures to the Highlands of Scotland to celebrate the New Year. This is their first reunion since the last New Year so tensions are running high. Of course, the fact that everyone has a secret or two doesn't help. When one of the guests goes missing and shows up dead 24 hours later, the race is on to figure out who did it.
Lucy Foley uses a combination of different POVs and time shifts to slowly reveal the answer to the big questions: Who was killed by who and why? At times, the build-up felt far too slow, especially considering most of the twists could be predicted before they were revealed. I will, however, give Foley credit for the semi-surprising reveal at the end of the book.
This book does still have its flaws. I was not a fan of Lucy Foleys writing style so I am unsure as to whether or not I will read any more of her books. I also don't understand the random POV that is in the third person. The first 2/3 of the book was incredibly boring with only a small amount of points of interest. There were two many questions left unexplained and abandoned plot points. The epilogue did not supply a satisfying conclusion and introduced too much unnecessary information.
Overall, this wasn't the worst book I have ever read, but it is definitely not my favorite.
