Review: Love makes fools of us all
HOW do I even review a book like this? HOW? I want to talk about it with everybody, but going in blind was the best part about my experience. Oh, John Gwynne, you have a huge fan in me now, sir. This was everything I've been looking for since I read ASIOAF as a teenager all those years ago before the tv show was a thing.
The gore, the mayhem, the constant edge of my seat tension. I had to put this book down for several days at a time MULTIPLE TIMES because it's so intense and insanely action packed. The bad guys are genuinely evil, the "good" guys are morally grey at best. The twists are twisty and the turns are GUT CHURNING AGONY.
Initially the three POV characters are their own sort of novella in their own right, but towards the end, their plotline converge together into one interconnected story that had me SCREAMING. The advice back when Game of Thrones was popular was "never get attached because they'll probably die." Yea. Yea. Characters die a lot in Shadow of the Gods, and they die nasty horrible awful gross deaths.
I loved every minute of it 10/10, all the stars, I'm buying the sequel RIGHT NOW. literally right this second. Oh man.
