I can’t decide whether my favorite character is Lamar Jimmerson or Austin Popper? Am I a bigger fan of the Jimmerson Spiral or the Jimmerson Lag? It’s hard to say, but I laughed a lot reading this book. Portis’ con men are second to none. I love how con men begin as villains in Norwood, then almost primary characters in Dog of the South, until they’re the protagonists in this book. My favorite Portis characters are the great talkers like Dr. Reo Symes and Austin Popper.
