Remainder by Tom McCarthy

What an interesting book! To state the obvious as someone who saw The Rehearsal before reading this book, The Rehearsal has major remainder vibes.

I'll have to spend more time thinking about the logical throughline - what ultimately drives the narrator's turn to fascination with his own visions, to megalomaniacal insistence that everyone play to his whims, to his eventual solipsistic obsession with bringing his visions to life. What enables it? He didn't start down the path until after becoming mega rich, but I wouldn't argue the story is fully about the single minded self importance of the rich. Something about the ways your reality can break towards callousness and internalization, maybe?
