This is a truly fascinating character study in which you are thrust into the carnival funhouse that is the mind of Mrs. March and spend the rest of the book looking for clues that will allow you to escape.

The presentation is very well done, it avoids being overly expository so that you feel like you are getting only part of the whole picture at any given time. Memories are left hanging, stories incomplete but in a way that completely mirrors the character’s state of mind. You are left perpetually guessing what is actually happening and what is part of Mrs. March’s paranoid delusional fantasies?
