Paper Towns by John Green
5.0

Awestruck. This book... Just... Oh my gosh. I am at a loss for words. Whoever said 'phenomenal' was right.

I usually do not read contemporary but I think Paper Towns has earned itself the place of 'favourite book at this minute' followed by all Robert Muchamore stuff.

I'll admit, I chose this book because of the cover. I read the back and said 'okay, this is grand' and bought it. I'd heard great things about John Green so I wasn't in a picky mood. I went on to watch John's YouTube videos and liked them well enough, I then started to read Paper Towns.

At first I thought 'Yeah, this is a good book, but it isn't out of the ordinary' but then came part two and I started clinging to it, unwilling to put I down. Then I neared the end, and I promise you I wasn't extremely far off crying and then it was over and I was awestruck.

The characters are good, they're diverse and so... real. They acted like normal teenagers, the swearing wasn't out of place, the conversation could have been ripped out from any old secondary school canteen for all I know. Because they are so real, I became attached to them, like I was in the backseat of the car the whole way. That's why I nearly cried. These people weren't like story characters which I love to read the adventures of, they were like old friends.

This book has a place in my heart now.

John Green, you are a genius.
